Primary and Secondary Environmental Effects Triggered by the 30 October 2020, Mw = 7.0, Samos (Eastern Aegean Sea, Greece) Earthquake Based on Post-Event Field Surveys and InSAR Analysis

On 30 October 2020, an Mw = 7.0 earthquake struck the eastern Aegean Sea. It triggered environmental effects (EEEs) on Samos Island detected by field surveys, relevant questionnaires, and Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) analysis. The primary EEEs in comprise coseismic uplift imprinted rocky coasts port facilities around surface ruptures northern Samos. secondary were mainly observed include slope failures, liquefaction, hydrological anomalies, ground cracks. With contribution of InSAR, subsidence was movements also identified inaccessible areas. Moreover, type deformation InSAR is qualitatively identical to observations. As regards EEE distribution, generated all fault blocks. By applying Environmental Seismic Intensity (ESI-07) scale, maximum intensities Based results from applied methods, it suggested that northwestern parts constitute almost 30-km-long zone characterized extensive EEEs. projection causative offshore points this zone, indicating a depth–surface connection revealing significant role rupture propagation.
